It seems like everyone except for our national leaders thinks that Europe needs to do more to respond to the current refugee crisis. There have been thousands of everyday people rallying in the streets, and some of the world’s most well-known faces are on the same page.

Salma Hayek Pinault, actor and co-founder of Chime for Change, is the latest celebrity to speak up. In a video addressed to the United Kingdom and France, Salma calls on David Cameron and François Hollande to do more to help those fleeing war and persecution.

Her call comes after the UK Home Secretary, Theresa May, confirmed at the EU Ministers emergency meeting that the UK will not accept any more refugees than the 20,000 (who are still in and around Syria) over five years that the Government has already committed to. France had previously confirmed that it will accept 24,000 refugees (who are already in Europe) over the next two years.

It’s a lot better than nothing, but it’s clear that these two large, prosperous countries can do a lot more. The UK and France need to show leadership, and take on their fair share of refugees. As Salma highlights, thousands of children have escaped the violence of Syria, only to find themselves in Europe, all alone, without a place to live; France and the UK must do more to provide these children with a safe and secure place to live. Here's a five point action plan by Save The Children that has the ability to end the crisis.

Tweet UK Prime Minister David Cameron and French President François Hollande now to tell them that they should do more to support people who are trying to escape war and suffering.
